In addition to the terrible chemicals found in standard household cleaning products, they're also full of harmful synthetic fragrances that have been linked to cancer and a whole slew of aliments. "Fragrance" or "parfum" on a label is a general term for over 3,000 different ingredients! Which is a mixture of carcinogens, allergens, respiratory irritants, endocrine distributors, neurotoxic chemicals, and environmental toxicants. Air fresheners and fabric softeners all smell nice, but at what cost? Below are a few more recipes to help you on your journey to a more toxic free life.
All Around/ Misc.
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice or 15 drops lemon essential oil
Add olive oil and lemon juice (or lemon essential oil) to glass bottle and shake to combine. Pour a small amount onto a soft rag to wipe wood clean.
Caution: Be sure to test on a small area first. Being extra cautions with antique pieces.
2 cups water
15-20 drops essential oils
1 tablespoon baking soda
Mix baking soda and essential oils in a glass bowl and then dissolve in 2 cups of water. Add to a 16oz spray bottle.
8 drops essential oils
Add vinegar to laundry basin (add 1/2 cup baking soda for an extra cleaning boost) and run as usual. Next add essential oils to one of the dryer balls and dry on low heat.
Erase Pencil & Crayons from Walls
1 part baking soda
1 part water
Mix equal parts baking soda and water to create a paste and gently apply to "artwork" with a soft rag. Scrubbing gently in a circular motion. Wipe clean with damp rag.
Note: be careful when using on colored walls as it can remove some of the color if scrubbed to hard.
1/2 cup vinegar
1 1/2 cups water
30 drops essential oil
add vinegar and essential oils to a 16 oz glass spray bottle then top with water (about 1 1/2 cups). Shake and spray!
Rug & Upholstery Deodorizer
1 cup baking soda
30 drops essential oil
Mix baking soda and essential oils together and sprinkle on rug or upholstered furniture. Let sit for 15 min (or overnight), then vacuum.
